Opera Talks

HandelSacramento Opera begins its 30th year by doing something we have never done before – Baroque opera. To get a better “Handel” on this unfamiliar style, come to Opera Talks for insights into the music, the composer, and the era.

Join Sacramento Opera Artistic Director Timm Rolek for our first Opera Talk of the season on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, 7:30 pm at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 6151 H Street, Sacramento. Enjoy this entertaining introduction to Handel’s Orlando, followed by a live performance by a member of the cast.

NEW! Demystifying Opera

fatlady_singsLearn what opera is really all about. Demystifying Opera takes a thought-provoking look at the world of opera, including a brief history of the art form through the use of visual and audio excerpts. We'll discuss the various genres of opera, voice types and how they relate to character types, the influence of opera on modern music, and how opera has made its way into popular culture. The discussion also features lively commentary and discussion about one of Sacramento Opera's upcoming productions. Led by Community Engagement Coordinator, Joey Castaneda, Demystifying Opera will peel away opera's aura of elitism and exclusivity, and explain how to make a night at the opera as easy to enjoy as an episode of CSI or Top Chef. Be sure to enter our prize drawing for two free tickets.
