The musical genius who brought you Messiah, Music for the Royal Fireworks and the Water Music, pulls out all the stops in this musically exhilarating masterpiece. Orlando is a great warrior in Charlemagne's army, who falls obsessively in love with Angelica, the Queen of Cathay. She in turn, is in love with the African prince, Medoro. Orlando’s obsession drives him to madness, but he is prevented from causing absolute carnage by the Magician Zoroastro who is ever ready “with his best Endeavours to re-conduct in the Right Way, those who have been misguided from it by the Illusion of their Passions.” Appropriate for High School age and up. |
