For lovers of “film noir,” American composer Stephen Paulus brings to life an old Hollywood classic with his dramatic and lyrical style.  Set in California, the story is of a drifter, Frank, who stops at a rural diner for a meal and ends up working there.  The diner is operated by the young and beautiful Cora, with whom he has a steamy affair.  Cora and Frank scheme to murder her elder husband Nick, in order to start a new life together.  The contemporary styled orchestration, strongly influenced by jazz, makes it a rare and fresh experience that can be enjoyed by both the opera newcomer and seasoned patron.  Riveting theater at its finest.  Mature content.
